Americans Aren’t Very Healthy

Posted on 29. Jul, 2010 by Wendy in Health/Wellness

Americans are living longer, but surprisingly, most are not living healthier!

FACT: The US Government has spent billions trying to find a cure for heart disease, cancer and many other diseases.

41% of all deaths are cardiovascular related:

1 out of 3 women will be affected by heart disease – Heart disease kills more women than cancer

70% of children have the beginnings of hardening of the arteries by the time they reach 12…if we don’t start paying attention to what our children are eating it’s estimated that in the next 10 years we will see 16 & 17 year olds dying of heart disease.

500,000 heart attack victims in American die each year

Americans spend $330 billion per year on heart disease

23% of all deaths are due to cancer:

1500 people die of cancer everyday–cancer kills more children than any other disease.

1 in 8 American Women will be diagnosed with breast cancer

These two diseases alone account for almost 2/3 of all deaths…add to that the rise of diabetes which is now the #3 killer. In the last 20 years type 2 diabetes has increased 10 fold…it used to be called adult onset diabetes and was only seen in older people…now it’s seen in kids as young as 4 years of age.

This generation of children is expected to have a shorter life span than their parents and that has never happened in the history of the world!

So what’s the CONCLUSION? Disease is easier to prevent than cure

Everyday that you don’t address the issues that are keeping you from optimum health, you are, in fact, gambling with your life…and I’m pretty sure according to the statistics above… that’s a game you won’t win…are you willing to take that risk?

A long, healthy & vibrant life doesn’t just happen…it’s a ‘choice’.

Will you join me in making a commitment to optimum health?

It starts with a desire…baby steps are better than no steps!

  1. Hey Wendy,

This is such a great post and really speaks the truth. The corporations don’t help any either, have you seen the size of McDoanalds meals? They’re huge! But it’s all about money to them, not helping people.

Here’s a thought, if they found a cure for Cancer, and or Heart disease, would Americans use that as a crutch and eat even more unhealthy?

    What do you think?

    Take care,

    Nathan

    Hey Nathan,

Thanks for your comments! Funny you should mention portion size, unfortunately, it’s not limited to McDonald’s…we recently had ice cream at a shop where the baby-baby cone is the size of an adult cone and only cost $1.25! The majority of people walking out the door have 3 HUGE scoops of ice cream.
As for cure…personally, I believe the development of Cancer and Heart Disease are mainly due to lifestyle “choices” so unless people decide to take responsibility for themselves and “choose” prevention instead of cure you will continue to see the statistics quoted increase.
It’s very sad to see so many die of disease’s that could have been prevented. Very few “choose” prevention as a way of life…I hope you do!
    Be Well,
    Wendy
