Wendy… I think that so many of us struggle with “what defines us”, especially as we walk through the seasons of our lives. I have found this to be true most recently when Noella moved to CA. For years, it was so much fun to live through her and not be forced to find my own identity. Now, I am on my journey to figure out who I am without her living close to me. I really had to dig deep to find what defines me, what I want to accomplish in the last 1/3 of my life, what new adventures I want to take on and get to know what life is with just John and I in the picture (a prelude to his retirement I suppose). One other thought… so many times when we meet new folks, the question is always, “so, what do you do for a living?” Well, what I do for a living does not define me. Who I am as a person defines me. So, I have made it my practice to not ask that question but to ask, “so, what do you love to do?” Thanks for a good blog :)

    Hi Gail,

I think you’re correct in saying that so many of us struggle with “what defines us”, especially as mothers who have invested so much of themselves into raising their children.

I’m with you on the journey to find out what defines me and what I want to accomplish…it’s a liberating experience…we WILL get the answer if we keep seeking it. :)

Choosing to wake up each day and ask “who can I have a positive impact on today or what can I do to make a difference in someone’s life?” I recently heard a story about a man that went to various Hospice facilities and interviewed people that were close to death…from all types of economic backgrounds…it didn’t matter how successful they were the underlying theme was; what really mattered was what they were able to give to someone else…not how much money they made or how much stuff they were able to accumulate.

Thanks so much for stopping by and sharing… I love the ‘question’ you ask when meeting someone!

    Wishing you a blessed week,
