Change Your Thinking Change Your Life!
You’ve probably heard that phrase before, but have you ever stopped to really think deeply about it?
My personal observation is that it’s often considered for a brief moment and then forgotten or poo pooed as positive thinking mumbo jumbo!
I’m not certain of many things but I am certain that this statement is true…‘Change your thinking’ and you WILL change your life.’
How often during the day do you pay attention to what you’re thinking about?
The next time you’re feeling anxious, down or stressed, take a few minutes to think about what’s been going on in your head. What have you been thinking about? Or saying to yourself?
Pay attention to what’s going on in your mind….EVERY thought matters!
Changing our thinking is the foundation for any kind of transformation in our life.
Your thoughts effect every area of your life; they affect what you say, your moods, your attitudes, your behavior, your relationships and the decisions that you make every day.
Just as feeding your body junk everyday will have a negative impact on your waistline and health so will feeding your mind the wrong kind of thoughts have a negative impact on every aspect of your life.
Several years ago, I was introduced to the scientific data from various sources about the power of our beliefs, our mindset, our thoughts and the words that we speak. I’m fascinated and intrigued by how each one impacts EVERY aspect of our life.
Thanks to that research, I’ve learned the importance of paying attention to what’s going on in my head and in turn with my emotions…being aware of and taking control of my thoughts and what’s coming out of my mouth. Frankly, that was a full-time job for quite a while! 😉 It’s still a daily process and always will be. This knowledge has changed my life in so many positive ways.
I could (and do) spend countless hours reading and listening to stories about how people have overcome various challenges and trials in their lives once they put into practice being mindful and taking control of their thoughts and words.
My favorite book says….
“it is done unto you as you believe”
“be transformed by the renewing of your mind”
“life and death are in the power of the tongue”
Your words are your personal affirmations…what are you saying?
Affirmations are a step to changing our thinking and also help to get us unstuck. Why not choose some new words to define yourself.
These are some of my words…
I am GRATEFUL
I am LOYAL
I am STRONG
I am HEALTHY
I am PERSISTENT
I am GENEROUS
I have LIMITLESS potential
I WILL achieve my goals
I WILL do whatever it takes
Positive affirmations are a step in changing our thinking but they don’t take the place of action and self-discipline. Feeling better about yourself is no substitute for doing better.
I’m a member of a group business coaching program and recently one of the assignments was reading the book The Power Of Neuroplasticity by Shad Helmstetter, PH.D. I highly recommend this book! https://amzn.to/2Agbicp
Dr. Shad has taken the complicated science of how the brain works and put it into simple language for anyone to understand. This book is written to help us understand the control that we have over our attitudes and behavior, and it provides a guide for changing the programs that we are unhappy with.
Here are a few of the excepts that I highlighted in my book …
Pg 4 – 5 What goes on in your mind and your life – changes your brain, physically. When you think or do something repeatedly, your brain actually changes its physical structure. Your environment, your experiences, your emotions, your attitudes, your self-talk, all of your perceptions – your brain is imprinting itself with every message it gets. And this discovery means that because your brain is constantly rewiring and changing itself, you are creating now, the person you’re going to become tomorrow. That’s the remarkable power of neuroplasticity at work.
Pg 267 – 268 You are in charge. The “input” you give your brain will form the neural pathways that you choose.
With the help of neuroplasticity, you get to create positive changes in your mind, your brain and your life.
You get to change or improve, both internally and externally, more of what happens next, by your choice. You get to direct your goals, your attitudes, and your beliefs – and with that, your actions, and your results, your future. You get to change your mind and your brain.
Through repetition, your brain will create strong new neural pathways, and delete harmful old pathways.
YOU have the freedom and the tools to change your life for the better…your beliefs, thoughts and decisions.
Remember…your beliefs become your reality. You will never go beyond what you believe.
YOU choose what you feed your body, mind and spirit. When you make good choices in all areas you WILL have a vibrant life, filled with confidence, joy, peace, creativity and success.
It takes time to renew your mind and change your thinking but it’s worth the effort and you will start to see positive changes. I challenge you to get a journal and record your progress.
Cheers to creating the best version of YOU!
