Tips for aging beautifully, inside and out
Is it possible to age beautifully with vibrant health and not spend a fortune on products or cosmetic procedures? I believe you can.
The term ‘growing old gracefully’ has never been part of my plan because in my mind that’s like throwing up the white flag of surrender!
Don’t get me wrong, I understand that I’m aging, and there is nothing that I can do about that, but it doesn’t mean that gives me an excuse to stop taking good care of myself.
Own your choices
I am responsible for what I eat, how much exercise I get, how much water I drink daily, the supplements I use or don’t use, the proper amount of sleep, what I think and focus on. I control this, not chance.
I’ve always been interested in information and ideas about how we can age beautifully, but I wasn’t always mindful or knowledgeable about the vibrant health part of the equation. My outlook changed when I turned forty and a friend of mine gave me the book ‘The Wrinkle Cure’ as a birthday gift.
Mark was one of my best friends, and in the past, he had always given me some little treasure from his hunts at Antique flea markets or from his ginormous stash of treasures. I especially looked forward to the cards with vintage buttons sown on them, but this year, he was obviously more interested in helping with my quest to fend off wrinkles!
LOL! To say that I was not thrilled to receive the book is an understatement. I must not have done a very good job at hiding my surprise, so Mark went on to say how he and his daughters saw a program with Dr. Perricone and were so intrigued with the information that he shared, how young he looked and free of wrinkles that they all bought the book and thought that I would like one too.
In the spirit of fighting the aging process with every weapon at my disposal I read the book. WOW! That was an eye-opener. Here I was, forty years old and I’m pretty much clueless about the role nutrition plays in the aging process. Very sad indeed.
Chapter One – The Wrinkle Cure
Chapter One had me hooked. “Wrinkled, sagging skin, in not the inevitable result of growing older. It’s a disease, and you can fight it. You can look your best, feel your best, and enjoy beautiful skin, and optimum health every day or your life, provided you start right now.” He goes on to say that beautiful skin on the outside begins with good health on the inside.
That got my attention and started my wellness journey!
At that stage of my life I was dealing with sunspots and pigmentation problems caused by years of overexposure to the sun. My skin looked horrible without cover-up and I was very self-conscious about it.
In the book Dr. Perricone talked about a serum that he developed so I promptly checked it out. The serum was way out of my budget for skincare products so I took the book and went to our local health food store to see if I could find something similar.
Finding the Serum that fixed my face!
The shelves were lined with serums. I must have been there for an hour reading the labels of bottles when the store manager came over and asked if he could help me find something. I handed him the book that listed the ingredients that I was looking for in a serum and he promptly handed me a bottle of Skin Eternal Serum.
The rest is history. I’m convinced that Skin Eternal Serum, combined with regular use of exfoliating scrubs, and limiting exposure to the sun is the reason that my skin looks as good as it does today.
The best ever testimonial was from a young man that had years prior unintentionally embarrassed me at a family cookout by asking what happened to my face…his mother was horrified and apologized, but we all know that kids just say what’s on their minds! I explained that whenever I was in the direct sun I would get dark spots and lines across and down my face called Hyper-pigmentation. Fast forward a decade and he was at our house for a cookout and asked me what I had done to my skin…it looked amazing. He thought that I had gotten treatments to remove the dark spots.
Over the years I’ve had a lot of people ask what I do to keep my skin from wrinkling, most are surprised when I tell them my age! I just turned 61.
My Morning Routine:
- Shower
- Wash my face and apply Skin Eternal Serum and Frankincense Intense Lift Eye Cream
- Glass of water and take my Supplements
- 8-minutes on my Bemer full body pad
- Enjoy a cup of coffee while reading for 30 minutes
- Listen to podcasts while getting ready for the day.
I happen to believe very strongly in the power of what we feed our mind, body, and spirit, so my morning routine includes all three aspects. For me it’s the difference between a good day and one that is not so good when one of those elements are skipped.
I didn’t dive into the nutritional aspect of aging beautifully but as I mentioned it’s a key component so here are a few of my favorite books to check out that will help with your quest of staying healthy and vibrant.
some of my favorite quotes about aging…
“Of all the self-fulfilling prophecies in our culture the assumption that aging means decline and poor health is probably the deadliest.” ~ Marilyn Ferguson
“Aging isn’t about getting old it’s about LIVING… Learning that you can age well, will actually help you to age better… let’s start celebrating and living an engaged life, and stop punishing ourselves for not looking a certain way, and instead of holding ourselves accountable for actually taking care of ourselves inside first, knowing the results on the exterior will be a shining side effect.” ~ Cameron Diaz
There is a fountain of youth: it is your mind, your talents, the creativity you bring to your life and the lives of people you love. When you learn to tap this source, you will truly have defeated age. Sophia Loren
To keep the heart unwrinkled, to be hopeful, kindly, cheerful, reverent–that is to triumph over old age. Thomas Bailey Aldrich
You don’t stop laughing when you grow old, you grow old when you stop laughing. George Bernard Shaw
“Do not grow old, no matter how long you live. Never cease to stand like curious children before the great mystery into which we were born.” ~Albert Einstein
I’m curious what’s your favorite quote?
Cheers to aging beautifully with vibrant health!
