Hump Day Humor
If you’ve been around kids for any length of time, I’m sure you’ve heard things that have made you laugh until you cry and at other times scratch your head and wonder where in the world that thought came from!
Olivia’s perspective…
Almost two years ago our family was at my mother-in-law’s funeral visitation and while I was chatting with one of my nephews, my grand-daughter Olivia (5 ½ at the time) came over, took my hand, looked up at me and said “Mimi, we need to have a lot of sleepovers before I come and visit you in this place!”
LOL!!! The look on my nephew Kirk’s face was priceless…he didn’t know what to say! I scooped Olivia up into my arms, as I laughed and told her that we did indeed need to have a LOT more sleepovers before she visits me in this place. I thought it was hilarious! She was so serious about it.
It’s crazy how often I think of that episode with Olivia. She was only 5 ½ and yet she understood that there were things that we needed to do while we could still do them.
Make time for the things that matter most.
That interaction with Olivia brought home the reality that none of us knows how much time we have left to spend with the people we love, or pick off the things on our bucket list. Life is short, regardless of how long you live. We need to make time for the things that matter most.
Thankfully, I’ve come a long way since my younger days of thinking that everything on my ‘To Do’ list had to be accomplished before I had any fun. My house is in good shape most of the time but isn’t as perfectly kept as I would like it to be…and thought it would be once my nest was empty…because I’m almost always going to choose having sleepovers instead of working on my ‘To Do’ list!
I’m SO thankful for the gift of Grand-kids! They are a constant source of joy, fun and laughter. If you don’t have any grand-kids there are plenty of young married couples that could use a free date night, so consider blessing someone else with some of your free time. You just might be surprised by how much fun you’ll have, spending time with young people, playing games, watching movies or baking cookies.
Give it a try, I’m pretty sure that it will help keep you young!
If you’ve enjoyed Hump Day Humor please share it with someone else who could use a laugh or maybe a change of perspective!
PS: The photo was intended to mimic the look on my nephews face!
